I have two related questions about ancient Chinese.

    i) We know that Chinese characters were taken to Japan sometime between the 2nd and 8th centuries AD. I have read that Chinese scholars took with them the Analects of Confucius, and maybe the Qian Zi Wen (Thousand Character Book). Does anyone know if this is a commonly accepted view, and if so, where I could get a copy of the Qianziwen? I am looking at differences between cognitive categories of noun classifiers in Chinese and Japanese, and need to know in what form, if any, noun classifiers were passed on to the Japanese by the ancient scholars.

ii) I am investigating the Chinese ba(3) construction and need examples of the use of ba(3) as an instrumental marker. Norman, J (1988) has pne example in his "Chinese" (Cambridge Uni Press). He says that in later Buddhist translations there are expressions of the form "ba qian mai yao" (hold money buy medicine). Does anyone out there know the source of thi expression or where I can find others like it?

Dear Netters, I am working in a paper on clitic doubling in Romance languages, especially in Spanish. I am trying to analize if they are base-generated in the pre-verbal position or end up there via movement. Can anyone refer me to some literatue on this topic?. Also, I'd really appreciate some more data in Spanish and in Rumanian. Please, reply directly to me. Thanks in advance.
